CarPlay: Cook says now every major car brand is comitted to supporting it. 40 new cars will have it.
-
Cook talking about how HomeKit is super cool, but he doesn't have much substance on that front.
-
You can now use Apple Pay at some vending machines. Wonder if it'll work on those Best Buy airport machines, so you can buy an Apple Watch with your Apple Watch?
-
Cook: "Perhaps the most profound impact that iPhone will make is on our health."
There are over 900 apps to track health and fitness.
Says that there's a bigger impact iPhone can make and that is on medial research. -
Jeff Williams is coming out to talk about the sexiest topic possible: MEDICAL RESEARCH
-
Jeff Williams taking about using iPhone for medical research.
-
Williams: in developing HealthKit they discussed research a lot. He's saying that HealthKit will give consistent, subjective data about your body or the bodies of study subjects.
-
So far, Tim Cook (at the live Apple event today) hasn't said anything that couldn't have just been sent in a press release. Just sayin'...
-
It's made specifically for medical research, turns iPhone and HealthKit into "powerful diagnostic tools."
-
Apple will now harness the health data generated phones and watches for medical research. THAT is a big deal.
-
For example, you can sign up to participate in Parkinson's research. There's an app that measures hand tremors, steps, and your voice to help provide information to researchers.
-
Say "Ahhh." Use ResearchKit as a diagnostic tool for Parkinson's.
-
The user sees their activity right on their phone, which allows them to keep close track on their help.
-
Apple has developed apps for diabetes, heart health, and asthma.
-
Comment on this medical stuff: Freaking amazing. Good for you, Apple.
-
On privacy: "You decide what you share, if you want to participate. And Apple will not see your data."
-
New apps for Parkinson's, diabetes, asthma, heart health, breast cancer--this could be HUGE. No evident profit motive--Apple at its best.
-
Now we're watching a video about research kit, starring some of the doctors who have been working on it.
-
The audience is VERY into the idea of ResearchKit.
-
It'll be released next month, and the five apps I mentioned below are available today. Go get your diabetes monitoring on, people.
-
Cook: Crowing about how great the Mac is doing. Growing sales faster than the industry overall. While notebook sales overall shrank, Macbook sales grew 20%.
-
Reasearch Kit allows for health tests away from the doctor's office.
-
Cook is talking about "the definition of portability" meaning, he's going to talk about a thinner notebook.
-
Cook: We challenged ourselves to reinvent the notebook... and we did it... and here it is...
-
Video now. A bubble on a black background.
-
Now we're watching a video. There's a colorful orb bubble on screen. Did they slip us LSD in our coffee?
-
"When you're out in the world, you will see Macs everwhere now ... the definition of portability has changed in the last few years." - Tim Cook
-
A slim slab of aluminum. A flat keyboard. A wedge notebook, but less wedgy than current Air. All-black screen surround, no metal bezel.
-
Another video. Tim Cook is realy substitute teacher-ing it up today.
-
Now we're seeing a molten hot bar of steel on the screen.
Apple uses a "specialized cold-forging process..." that makes it "up to 80% harder,"
then it's milled and polished.
For the space black color, a "diamond-like carbon finish" is added. -
The Milanese loop (band) is made of coils woven together to give it a fabric-like feel.
-
Cook: "The Apple Watch Edition is... unique and very special."
The cases are made of 18k solid gold. -
Apple Watch costs $550 to $1050, depending on your band. Larger screen is 50 dollars more.
