- Winner
And it's Chivo, as Jessica Chastain (and everyone else) called him. Emanuel Lubezki! - Winner
-
Emmanuel Lubezki won last year for Gravity. He's responsible for setting up those astounding long shots in Birdman, and you can see a preview of his Birdman work in the famous car sequence from Children of Men, for which he also received an Oscar nomination.
-
Roger Deakins, who was nominated for Unbroken, lost yet again. That's 13 losses for the great cinematographer. But Lubezki shot a film that looks like it was one continuous take, so you certainly can't argue against his win. Especially since Unbroken wasn't very good.

Birdman won Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, Best Picture and Best Cinematography

Despite all the losses, the Boyhood cast seems genuinely happy when Birdman takes Best Picture. Go figure. - On location
-
The old Hollywood axiom: Oscar voters love movies about showbiz. This is a dark look at Hollywood, and the assembly line of junk that studios produce, but no one wants to believe they're part of that problem, so the win makes sense
-
Sean Penn starred in Iñárritu's film 21 Grams, so that questionable green card joke was between friends (I hope).
-
No reason for Michael Keaton to be upset after that Birdman win.
-
Michael Keaton gets to make an acceptance speech of sorts. He didn't win Best Actor, but Alejandro González Iñárritu gave him a lot of time. He seems happy!
-
The show itself was enjoyable enough, but no big surprises aside from Lady Gaga's soprano. It's a little disappointing that it was so predictable.
-
Yeah, I was bummed to see Boyhood mostly shut out (though go Patricia Arquette!), but other than that, no surprises at all. Even John Travolta lived up to his reputation.
-
There's lots to relive, though, so check out our hub for all things Academy Awards, right here!
-
I will say that it was nice to see Selma get a moment, even if it wasn't as much of a moment as it deserved.

We'll likely be reading about all the big social justice moments tomorrow. Lots of ways in for non-entertainment sites. And if it gets people talking about issues like racism, mass incarceration, medical research, LGBT rights and immigration reform, well Hollywood did something right (even if it was incidental!)
-
We like to poke fun at Hollywood, but it takes really smart people to make these movies. Really smart and empathetic people. Looking forward to the headlines tomorrow -- but until then, relive the show highlights here! That's it for Gwynne and I, thanks for hanging out -- stay here for more!

Remember that weird moment when Terrence Howard get oddly emotional while introducing Best Picture nominees?
If you were confused watching Terrence Howard introduce the Best Picture nominees at the 87th Academy Awards show Sunday, you weren't alone.by Dylan StablefordHoward became visibly — and oddly — emotional onstage while presenting a montage reel of the film nominees.
"Our next film is amazing," said Howard, a 2005 Best Actor nominee for "Hustle & Flow," as he introduced "The Imitation Game." He then appeared to stray from the TelePrompter, "I'm blown away by it myself."
He went on to talk passionately about the Civil Rights historical drama "Selma," and an audible cracking noise could be heard in the background as Howard spoke:
Viewers were, understandably, more than a bit confused. Is Terrence Howard this moved? Or is something else happening? #NPROscarsFeb. 22, 2015- Reply
